SPL Weekend Round-up
- Updated: September 12, 2009
Motherwell missed a late penalty as they were held to a goalless draw at Fir Park by ten-man Rangers.
The Gers were fortunate to maintain their unbeaten start to the new SPL season, although their 100 per cent record did go.
With just four minutes to go, Madjid Bougherra brought down Lukas Jutkiewicz and a penalty was awarded. The Algerian was booked for his initial protests, and then was sent off as he continued his argument.
But Motherwell threw away the chance to claim all three points as Jim O’Brien saw his effort saved by Allan McGregor.
Rangers’ draw meant Celtic could have gone top of the table, but they slipped up at home to Dundee United.
Tannadice striker David Goodwillie drove the visitors into the lead in the
sixth minute but Parkhead striker Scott McDonald equalised in the 17th minute
when he headed in a Danny Fox free-kick from close range.
Scott Robertson was then sent off late on for United, but they managed to hang on to take a big point.
St Johnstone claimed a 1-1 draw at St Mirren after coming from behind in Paisley.
The home side had gone ahead from the penalty spot as Billy Mehmet fired home, but St Johnstone secured a point as Jody Morris drilled the ball home from the edge of the area.
Hearts’ clash with Kilmarnock was postponed as the away coach was stuck in bad traffic. The game will now be played on Tuesday.
