St Johnstone chairman Geoff Brown has apologised to supporters after the SPL clash with Rangers was postponed.
The league game at McDiarmid Park was called off an hour before kick-off on Saturday as parts of the pitch were deemed to be frozen.
Many supporters were angry at the nature of the short-notice postponement and the Saints may face a fine if they are found to have breached competition rules.
Brown, though, could only apologise to fans of both teams, telling the Daily Record: “This is a desperate apology from myself and St Johnstone to Rangers and supporters of both clubs.
“The game going off will cost us a six-figure sum because of everything that goes with a match of that size.
“I want to apologise to all the fans and we’ll be very thorough in solving the problem as quickly as we can to ensure this never happens again.”
Celtic took advantage of Rangers having no game at the weekend to close the gap at the top of the table to seven points.
The SPL is set to investigate the postponement, although Brown suspects a fault with the undersoil heating at the club’s ground is to blame.
“We’re still not sure what’s happened but I fear there’s ice in our pipes at the ground,” he added.
“Around Christmas, we were around minus 16 at McDiarmid Park. Those pipes are supposed to be just over 200 millimetres into the ground but considering they were put in with just a plough that pulled them through – they could easily be 50mm above that.
“So if there’s ice in the pipes and it’s stopped the water going round, that’s where the problem could lie. With undersoil heating, you heat the water to 42 degrees.
“To thaw ice at that temperature would take a bit of doing. There’s obviously been a malfunction in our system.”
