ABERDEEN FC boss Mark McGhee today defended his decision to replace substitute Darren Mackie during the latter stages of their Scottish Cup clash with Raith Rovers.
Many of the Aberdeen FC fans at Stark’s Park reacted furiously when Mackie was replaced by Peter Pawlett in the 65th minute, when Raith Rovers were ahead 1-0.
McGhee is delighted the fans showed support for Mackie, who has been heavily criticised in the past. But he believed Michael Paton would offer more of a goal threat in the latter stages.
McGhee said: “I decided to gamble on playing him straight through the middle in the hope that he might take any chances that came his way.”
