ABERDEEN FC Scottish Cup hero Brian Irvine says it’s time for the Pittodrie players to prove they have the same passion as he has for the club.
Aberdeen FC manager Mark McGhee will have ruffled a few feathers with his claim in yesterday’s Evening Express that it was time for his players to accept responsibility for their failures.
Mark let rip after seeing his side lose at home to Motherwell and Falkirk in the lead-up to this weekend’s Scottish Cup clash with Raith Rovers in Kirkcaldy.
Brian, who earned legendary status with the Red Army by netting the decisive penalty when Aberdeen FC beat Celtic 9-8 at Hampden in the first ever cup final shoot-out in 1990, believes Mark got it spot on.
Brian said: “Players find it too easy to hide behind managers nowadays.
“Mark is right to speak out in the manner he did because there is little he can do once his players cross that white line on to the pitch. Managers prepare teams for games and pick the team but from the moment the first whistle goes it’s all about what the players do.”
