Burnley manager Brian Laws has confirmed he is in talks with Celtic’s Danny Fox about a transfer to Turf Moor for the Scotland left-back.
The 23-year-old Fox only joined Celtic from Coventry in the summer but has indicated to Laws he would relish a move to the Barclays Premier League.
“He’s one of quite a few players that I’m talking to,” said Laws.
“And one thing very evident is that they all want to come here and that’s very, very pleasing.”
Celtic manager Tony Mowbray this week said that he was not resigned to losing Fox, despite allowing the Cheshire-born player to talk to Burnley.
And Laws indicated that he was only one of several players he is considering.
“He’s one of many options and, if it’s not Fox, it will be someone else,” said the Burnley manager, who also said he had received no approaches for striker Robbie Blake despite reported interest from Preston.
“No deal has been done yet and we have done a lot of talking with a lot of people.
“We can’t say one player is the first choice because he might not want to come or we can’t do the deal, so you have got to have options A, B and C.
“I’m trying to sign a few more players, I’m hoping to conclude at least a couple more players before the window shuts.”
Fox, who made his Scotland debut in November having previously played for England Under-21s, signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Celtic in July after leaving Coventry for an undisclosed fee, thought to be about £1.5m.
However, Burnley are believed to have offered Celtic £1.8m and Mowbray said earlier this week that the money would help him in his team rebuilding with the side sitting second in the Scottish Premier League.
Mowbray pointed out that Mark Wilson and Paul Caddis, primarily right-backs, Lee Naylor, who has himself been linked with Ipswich, and Darren O’Dea, who had a disappointing loan spell with Reading, could all play at left-back.
At the same time as the Celtic manager warned that the Fox transfer might not happen, he had said that Stephen McManus’ move to Middlesbrough might not materialise and that deal did indeed fall through on Wednesday.
Burnley have already this week brought in a player with recent SPL experience, signing goalkeeper Nicky Weaver, who had left Dundee United at the end of a short-term contract.
New manager Laws, who succeeded former Falkirk and St Johnstone manager Owen Coyle after his move to Bolton, also signed central defender Leon Cort from Premier League rivals Stoke City for £1.5m on Wednesday.
And Laws has denied reports that Preston want experienced striker Robbie Blake.
He told BBC Radio Lancashire: “Nobody’s contacted me and the one thing I’ve always done with players is to inform them immediately whether it’s permanent or a loan.
“Robbie’s enjoying his time here. The media have thrown this one in, not me. He’s part of my plans unless someone tells me differently – Robbie’s getting on with it.”
