Grassi Had Been Threatened

WE made it hard for ourselves again with the sending-off. I thought Andy Webster instigated the situation and Davide Grassi reacted to it.

Grassi had been threatened all afternoon that he was going to get his face smashed and he reacted – which was silly.

I think the linesman could have helped us. He got involved in things and told the referee what happened, but I do not think he told him the full story.

I was disappointed because we have had another player sent off and their player was only booked. I cannot quite understand it. Grassi was suckered for the sending-off. We say to them all the time not to react, to trust the referee to deal with it.

I don’t have to say the standside linesman is a bad linesman, I’m not going to make any comment on that, but I don’t have to like the guy – and I don’t like the guy.

His attitude stinks and I think that’s enough said. He got busy and we saw what happened. Webster initiated it and he only got a yellow card. For me, it’s wrong. We do our best week-in, week-out, not only to the media, but to support the officials in a general sense.

I’m constantly telling my players to leave the referee and officials alone and all we want in return is a fair crack and I don’t think we’re getting it. The first half we played very well. We had a lot of energy about us and you could see the difference having Peter Pawlett and Fraser Fyvie back in the team.

Paul Marshall did well. He moved the ball about well with reverse passes and switching the play. It was a long time into the game before he gave the ball away.

That is the way we want to play and they gave us the energy we had been missing. I think we deserved to win, even though they put us under a bit of pressure aerially when we were down to 10 men.
