Mowbray Doubts Keane Deal

Celtic boss Tony Mowbray does not believe the club’s wage structure could accommodate someone of Robbie Keane’s stature.

The SPL giants have been linked with a loan move for the experienced striker, who has found himself out of Tottenham’s first-team picture of late.

It had been thought that Celtic fan Keane could be interested in a move to Parkhead, although Mowbray does not think they could afford him anyway.

Irish financier Dermot Desmond reportedly would need to loosen the purse strings to attract someone of Keane’s calibre, something Mowbray says is out of his hands.

“That’s out of my hands really,” he told Sky Sports News. “In the structure we have at the moment there’s no scope for that.

“Every football club has its own policies and I don’t envisage that happening. Unless certain individuals want to make that commitment.”

With the January transfer window approaching Mowbray insists he will not be revealing names until the players have signed on the dotted line.

“We’re working on things. There is nothing definitive,” he continued.

“There’s nobody signed any pre-contracts. January isn’t long for people to wait.

“If people sign on the dotted line then we will announce it then.”
